Qantas Wellbeing App: Earn Points For Walking

In the month of February, Qantas are running a Frequent Walker Challenge (no pun intended) via their Wellbeing App. I

t’s a novel way for an airline to incentivise frequent flyers to exercise, and a convenient segway into their white-labelled insurance business (where their health insurance policies are provided by NIB for example).

Earn Up To 10 Points Per Day By Walking

No, that’s not a typo. For each day you record 7,500 steps or more, you will earn 10 Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Hitting this goal every day in February 2021 will earn a grand total of 280 points!

With a market value of A$2.80 the return isn’t life changing for a month of effort. But if you’re walking anyway, why not?

What Other Activities Earn Points?

Fortunately, other daily activities also earn points from running, cycling, swimming and even golf. The earn rates aren’t especially lucrative but the concept is novel.

Is The Qantas Wellbeing App Worth It?

At a run rate of 10 points per day, you’d have to be walking for 640 days or roughly 1.7 years to earn enough points for a one-way award flight in Economy from Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane. On which you’d still need to pay taxes and surcharges.

So if your aim is international premium cabin award seats, the answer is no.

But there is value for people who may not have a Direct Earn credit card associated with their Qantas Frequent Flyer account as these points will keep your account active. Otherwise your points expire after 18 months without activity.

Qantas Wellbeing App Bottom Line

The Qantas Wellbeing App is a novel bridge between an airline frequent flyer program and their white labelled insurance business. While the points potential is miniscule, the app is useful for keeping your Qantas Frequent Flyer account active.
