Review: The Warehouse Hotel Singapore

The Warehouse Hotel is a design hotel located alongside the Singapore River at Robertson Quay. With only 37 rooms, it’s a genuine boutique property that feels like a (very stylish) home away from home.

Booking The Warehouse Hotel

I was looking to use my Marriott Bonvoy points to redeem a 5 night stay in Singapore, as one of the few solid benefits remaining with the program is a 5th Night Free on award bookings.

There was award availability on the nights I would be in Singapore so I secured a room for a reasonable 137,000 points.

While elite benefits are limited, with no free breakfast option, room upgrades and late checkout are still offered.

I emailed a week in advance to ask for a room with a bathtub, and the team responded promptly that they would see if an upgrade was available on the day of arrival.

Warehouse Hotel Check In

Arriving at the hotel by car at around 11PM there was no wait to check in. Given there are only 37 rooms at the hotel, the long lines you get at some cookie cutter convention hotels or in Las Vegas are thankfully absent.

The efficient front desk clerk took my passport and credit card details, advised that I had been upgraded from a Warehouse Sanctuary (entry level room) to a Warehouse Loft and handed me the keycard and a very stylish welcome drink token.

Loft rooms are located on the upper floor and there is a discrete lift behind the bar if you have luggage. Otherwise, I used the broad wooden stairs to get to my room.

Warehouse Hotel Loft Room Review

The first impression when entering Room 207 was that of space. Both from the high ceilings and open plan layout. I was very pleased to see that my request for a bath was fulfilled.

And the second impression was that of supreme style. The design of the room was perfect with generous spaces and beautifully chosen finishes. Being in the room gave me the same feeling as Ilse Crawford’s The Pier lounges for Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong.

While not to everyone’s taste, I enjoyed the long open wardrobe and desk that lined one wall.

The mini bar was also of excellent quality with artisanal loose leaf tea and drip coffee bags provided as complimentary. A narrow spout kettle is both stylish and perfect for brewing coffee. Filtered drinking water is also provided in reusable glass bottles.

A welcome amenity of pineapple tarts was waiting on the desk, and they were exceptionally good.

The king sized bed was firm but comfortable, with quality bed linens and pillows. There was also a beside Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speaker for your listening needs.

And the bathroom was generously sized with a novel glass sliding door between the shower and toilet. The vanity area was well designed and spacious, stocked with Ashley & Co amenities (basically New Zealand’s answer to Aesop).

The bath was narrower than many but deep and long, perfect for a long soak with smooth jazz playing in the background.

Warehouse Hotel Pool Review

True to the design ethos of the Warehouse Hotel, the pool is glass fronted and overlooks the Singapore River.

Warehouse Hotel Singapore Pool

Given the tropical climate of Singapore, the opportunity to have an afternoon dip is very welcome and not always available at boutique hotels. Singapore’s original boutique hotel, The Scarlet, has a jacuzzi but no pool.

Food & Drink

The hotel’s flagship, and only, restaurant is Po. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner the menu is refined modern Singaporean (and very much ‘atas’). Unfortunately the Bonvoy/Design Hotels partnership doesn’t include breakfast for elites so I didn’t end up dining here during my stay.

Location

Located right on the Singapore River at Robertson Quay, the Warehouse Hotel is within walking distance along the shared pedestrian/cycling path to the Marina Bay area and about half an hour to City Hall.

Despite having visited Singapore multiple times over the year, this was my first trip spending significant time along the river and it was great to be in walking distance to sights like Merlion and the newish National Gallery of Singapore

Warehouse Hotel Singapore Summary

The Warehouse Hotel is a beautifully designed boutique hotel with stylish rooms, rooftop swimming pool and great service.

While it would have been great for more Marriott Bonvoy elite benefits like breakfast to be available, the room upgrade and great location makes this the best choice for travellers who appreciate great design.
