Review: Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Stockholm

The Radisson Blu Waterfront Stockholm is a well located hotel for a 24 hour stopover in Stockholm. This was our second visit to Stockholm and with a short layover were looking for something convenient to the airport shuttle the Ariadne Express.

We arrived at 9am after our overnight flight from Singapore via Moscow. Having made the booking via the Qantas website for extra points, we went to check-in early with no Accor status and low expectations.

Check-in and Room

Checkin was very friendly and immediately gave us access to our room. There is a convention centre next door so I imagine when conferences are on this would not be possible. This was a huge relief after the 24 hour trip.

The room was clean and the bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable I have slept on. Having paid a very reasonable AUD214 for the room our view was of the convention centre. Blackout curtains are needed in summer and winter as the lights of the convention centre were on all night.

Tea and instant coffee were provided as well as a bar fridge filled with electronically monitored drinks.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served from 6:30am to noon Monday to Friday and 7:00am on weekends. As we had a 10:00 am flight to Zurich on Swissair we could not linger for breakfast. This was a shame as it was a very good breakfast spread.

We arrived before 7:00am and were directed to a table where coffee was already set and we could help ourselves. Julie was also able to order a cappuccino.

The food on offer was Swedish themed with lots of Salmon, pickled herring,  pickled vegetables and a selection of Swedish crisp-breads. We went back for seconds with the fish and pickled vegetables. They also had the usual bain-marie with mushrooms, eggs and bacon available.

Breakfast at Radisson Blu Waterfront Stockholm

There was a great selection of pastries, I tried the fresh crepes with different syrups, nutella and cream.

When compared with the cost of coffee or pastries in Stockholm, having a great breakfast included with the accommodation is a good call.

Location

The hotel is well located right next to the central train station. The Ariadne express connects the central station to the Ariadne airport (ARN) in less than 20 minutes. The hotel is an easy walk to all the sights such as the old town Gamla Stan or the Vassa museum.

Last time we stayed in the old part of town, Gamla Stan,  which was lovely but harder to access with bike bags on cobblestones.

How to get to the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel from the train station

If you are coming from the airport via the Ariadne express follow the platform, keeping the Ariadne ticket booth to your left. You will then enter the main food area in the station. In the middle there is an escalator that leads upstairs with directions to the waterfront. Go up the escalator and then straight ahead. Once you exit the station the Radisson will be straight in front. Easy.

Summary

If you are limited for time and want to stay near the train station then the Radisson Blu in Stockholm is a great choice. I would recommend adding the breakfast option.
